Candice Swanepoel is proudly breastfeeding her baby.
The 28-year-old Victoria’s Secret supermodel Instagrammed a close-up picture of herself breastfeeding her son, Anaca, on Sunday, and spoke out against the stigma she says she’s felt about feeding her child in public.
“Many women today are shamed for breastfeeding in public, or even kicked out of public places for feeding their children,” Swanepoel wrote. “I have been made to feel the need to cover up and somewhat shy to feed my baby in public places but strangely feel nothing for the topless editorials I’ve done in the name of art..?
Swanepoel pointed out what she sees are double standards.
“The world has been desensitized to the sexualization of the breast and to violence on tv…why should it be different when it comes to breastfeeding?” she continued. “Breastfeeding is not sexual, it’s natural. Those who feel it is wrong to feed your child in public need to get educated on the benefits breastfeeding has on mother and child and intern on society as a whole.”
Swanepoel welcomed her 2-month-old son in October with her fiance, Hermann Nicoli. The South African model has shared pics of her adorable baby with fans, including this snap of him resting on her shoulder last week.
But the new mom is of course not the only celeb to proudly share their breastfeeding pics. Just last month, Blac Chyna Instagrammed a picture of herself breastfeeding Dream, her daughter with Rob Kardashian.
One of the most outspoken breastfeeding advocates is actress Olivia Wilde. In October, Wilde posted a candid photo of her breastfeeding her newborn daughter, Daisy. The move came after the Drinking Buddies actress caused headlines back in 2014, when she posed for Glamour magazine while nursing her son, Otis, in a Robert Cavalli gown.
“People should be allowed to breastfeed wherever they want, whenever they want,” she told Yahoo Beauty in July. “There should be no pressure on women to breastfeed, or they are made to seem like they are terrible mothers. I think that’s really unfair.”
